'I love the Bauhaus' tee shirt
'I love the Bauhaus' tee shirt. Red, blue, yellow & black ink on white tee.
This design responds to the iconic tee shirt and features motifs used by the Bauhaus; the triangle, circle and square, in the primary colours.
From 1919 in Weimar, Germany to Berlin 1933, the Bauhaus School of Design consolidated Modernism, in answer to the Romanticism and ornamentation that came before it. "'Bauhaus' became an abbreviation for the radical modernisation of life and its positive and negative side effects".
Before the Nazis closed it down, it produced these well-known artists/teachers, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Johannes Itten, Lazslo Moholy-Nagy, Walter Gropius and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, among others.
Despite being newly welcome and equal in theory, women at the Bauhaus were channelled into weaving, pottery and book-binding rather than architecture. Though free love and vegetarianism were probably open to all?!
